We’ve come a long way in a short time

Here’s a look-back at our work since 2015 and our plans for the future.

At 12 years old, Jade delivered her first assembly at a primary school in Devon, England. She described her struggles with mental health and inspired her young audience with her story. What started a small family project grew into the Youth Mental Health Foundation, and we have now delivered assemblies and workshops to build mental health resilience in school children at over 150 schools, speaking with over 35,000 young people.

Claire and Joel played a key role supporting Jade’s recovery from her struggles with mental health. They created the Horizon Plan, our free online course for parents of young people who struggle with mental health and self-harm. Click here to find out more.

After recognising that many parents struggled to attend our in-person Power2Parent groups, we launched the online Zoom program. Parents attend from the comfort of their home. Click here to find out more.

Heading 65

We run a Facebook Group called ‘Self-Harm Parents’, with 2.5k members who are parenting a child or teen who self-harms. It’s a place our members go for support, understanding and guidance. Our community also guides the Youth Mental Health Foundation’s focus and plans, as well as co-creating and piloting all our free-to-access resources. Click here to join our Facebook group.

Heading 64

We will launch our small-group and 1-2-1 coaching for fee-paying parents wanting to support a young person struggling with mental health. This gives parents an option to continue learning whilst waiting for the release of free HP online course modules.

Heading 66
Adaptation of the Horizon Plan online course to support parents caring for children and young people struggling with other mental health challenges (Planned 2025)

We will modify the Horizon Plan, our online course, to support a wider audience of parents supporting a young person struggling with mental and emotional health (anxiety, depression etc), as opposed to the current subset of those supporting a young person that self-harms.

Train-the-Trainer Programme (Planned 2025)

We plan to develop a training programme, that will train parents with lived experience of supporting a child struggling with mental health to lead our Power2Parent groups alongside a qualified mental health clinician.

City Hubs (TBC)

The establishment of local support groups led by qualified Power2Parent coaches.

Residential Retreat (TBC)

A farm in Devon, UK, where young people struggling with mental health and their parents, can stay for a short period and be immersed in a healing and supportive environment. There will be a variety of activities and programmes for both young people and their parents including connecting with nature, spending time in the outdoor environment, music, art, story-telling, working with or riding a horse, woodworking, leatherworking, arts and crafts, games, gardening, acts of service and helping others through volunteerism.
